Shagreen leather is a product from shark or stingrays. The leather has always been a part of Henry Forwood’s life: his grandmother was always a collector of past family mementos and objects. A number of these were made with, or packed in, exquisite shagreen leather.

In the 1990s, Henry started to work with resin as an alternative material to real shagreen. Through this work and over a number of years, he developed the skills of accurate mould making. Combined with a knowledge of chemistry, he was able to produce a pliable sheet of resin shagreen that was so realistic that it is difficult to distinguish from the real thing.
