Malachite is a very special stone because it has amazing patterns in deep and pale greens. There is a long tradition of combining malachite with gilt metal or gold. The rich and powerful of the world have been have been using this malachite and gilt combination for millenniums.
Craftsmen and artists have also been creating faux malachite products for centuries to recreate luxury of the real stone. For example the traditional method to do this is by painting malachite like swirls in different shades of green. Eventually a few very ago I worked out a method of creating a really realistic faux malachite using photography. As you can see from this drinks chest, the results are amazing.
