The Lapis Lazuli Side Table is both elegant and practical table combining regal imagery with chic sophistication. The side table is created using our exclusive lapis lazuli print on tempered glass. This combined with a spun stainless steel base it adds a stunning visual in blue to any interior setting. The tempered glass top of the occasional table makes it exceptionally easy to clean.
Lapis Lazuli is a deep blue semi-precious stone. The primary source of the stone is in Afghanistan. With this table we have also used the lapis lazuli in conjunction with stainless steel which follows the tradition of combining the stone with silver metals. The rich and powerful have been have been using this lapis lazuli and silver gilt combination millenniums.
Craftsmen have been creating faux Lapis for hundreds of years, trying to imitate the rich blues and gold of the real stone. They used indigo paint which they sometimes flecked with gold. You can find samples of trinket boxes and mirror frames made this way. Eventually a few very ago I worked out a method of creating a really realistic faux lapis lazuli using photography. As you can see from the occasional table, the results are amazing.
The Lapis Lazuli side table is unquestionably a glamorous contemporary addition to any living room. Indeed we love to combine it with our Lapis rectangular mirror and our lapis lazuli placemats and coasters.
Because of its colour, deep blue flecked with gold – the sky and the sun- the early Christians linked it with the heavens. It became known as the Virgin Mary’s stone.
